See All ReviewsThis place was so quaint. The food was absolutely wonderful. Exploding flavors in your mouth. The organic bread he makes was wonderful. All their plates are small but very good. The owner makes his own wines. They were very good. Over all I would go back in a heartbeat. The owners and staff were very personable. Enjoyed our evening and meal.
Dined at Venice to Madrid last night and experienced absolute culinary talent, hospitality, and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The food was authentic, unique, and combined in palette awakening plates. Our meal featured: House made Palermo wine: full flavored, semi-dry made without additives Homemade Hummus & Vinaigrette Beets: Garnished with fresh, vibrant pesto. Ancient Grain Bread Board: In-house breads paired with EVOO seasoned with fresh herbs. Korean Beef Stew: Deeply savory, featuring tender, authentically seasoned beef over mashed potatoes (or ancient bread cubes), garnished with homemade kimchi. Dessert: Pistachio, almond or vanilla panna cotta (sells out fast). The sheer amount of care, prep, and scratch-cooking that goes into this menu makes it a standout restaurant in Northeast PA. Enjoy the artsy decor, hospitality and uniquely combined scratch prepared foods...overall a great dining experience.
When John and Doreen came to the home I grew up in, it was one of the most puzzling moves I’d ever seen. With no way to know what to expect, my mother and I tried the restaurant early on. Eatery is the wrong word, forgive me. We were invited into their second home. With all the love of people who belong side by side, John’s front of house became an extension of their hearts, decorated and curated with all the care of an artist. The local staff has learned to pronounce Halloumi, the waitresses remember us and will take all the time in the world to explain what’s going on in Doreen’s kitchen today. With all of this said, Doreen is the star of this show. To be a chef is her purpose, culinary is her gift, and her undeniable passion and expertise come through in every single dish. Venice to Madrid is where holidays happen, milestones are celebrated, and events are bookended. Support these people who took a chance on your town - who didn’t speak down to us but instead trusted that a level of dining never before seen in the area would be possible. This morning my mother and I cracked into our take home boxes for lunch and enjoyed it as if it were new. We eat Korean Barbecue and chat about the future of our favorite place. Long live homemade hummus and ancient bread. Long live the people that brought kimchi to my hometown despite no one knowing what it is. Long live the community that tried it anyway. Long live the dreamers. Long live the long shot. And whatever happens. Long live Venice to Madrid
